Ranked Battle Royale merges PC and crossplay console players
Ranked Battle Royale now puts PC players and crossplay-enabled console players into one matchmaking pool, ending the platform split the mode launched with. Console players who keep crossplay off still meet only their own platform. EA expects quicker queues and fewer high-ping or cross-region lobbies as a result.
EA says it separated the pools at first because of input-balance concerns, but its tournament results, Cash Cups included, show controller, mouse-and-keyboard and mixed squads all finishing near the top. Ranked BR was the last mode in the game still splitting PC from console.
PC players now face console players who have crossplay turned on.
Console with crossplay on joins the shared pool by default; anyone already partied with PC friends was in it before the change.
Console with crossplay off keeps same-platform matchmaking.
EA plans to watch match telemetry and the mouse-and-keyboard versus controller balance, and says it will adjust if unhealthy trends show up.
