Season 3 Preview: Railway to Golmud, Ranked BR, Portal
A Season 3 preview landed ahead of the May 12 launch , anchored by Railway to Golmud — a remake of the Battlefield 4 classic that runs four times the size of Mirak Valley. The post also previews Ranked Battle Royale Quads (rolling out via Battlefield Labs in Live), mortar adjustments, ping-system refinements, playlist reorganisation, and a slate of Portal additions including new verified modes.
The post is broad. Standouts by area:
Railway to Golmud : 4× the size of Mirak Valley, Battlefield Studios' largest BF6 map; the train now heads toward the enemy HQ once captured rather than friendly HQ, encouraging more train-borne attacks
Combat tuning : continued work on hit registration, netcode, and visual feedback; recoil mitigation on controller reduced to align with mouse/keyboard; experimental dispersion-while-ADS visualisation in testing via Battlefield Labs
Mortar : ammo no longer regens while an instance is deployed; accuracy falls off at long range to discourage entrenched camping
Pings streamlined : danger and location pings share the same shape (red for danger); faster input; fewer accidental cancellations
Playlists reorganised : Featured row replaced with a personalised Quickplay row; new Ranked row added; REDSEC and full-game players see different surfacing
REDSEC : tanks now auto-spot at ≤300 m; transport vehicles tuned down; Recon Drone zoom reduced and cooldown raised; smoother match start; XP curve flattened
Portal : Cairo Bazaar verified at launch; Season 2 Battle Pass hardware unlocked in Portal; ViperStudioAndy's Custom Conquest template integrated into the SDK; vehicle impulse function and Squad/Team Deathmatch verified modes arrive later in the season
