Ranked Battle Royale Matchmaking Now Weights Players by Rank
A backend matchmaking change went live in the Battle Royale playlist on September 1, narrowing the rank spread the search starts from before it opens up again over time. EA says queues may run longer as a result, and that scrapping a search and starting over forfeits the widening already earned. The change follows earlier work aimed at thinner regional populations, and rides along with Battlefield Labs in Live as a Ranked test.
EA frames the update as a tuning pass rather than a finished system, and says the Ranked Battle Royale rollout doubles as a live test.
Tighter starting bracket: the search opens by looking for opponents near your own rank, instead of the wide rank spread matches have been drawing from
Gradual widening: when nobody suitable turns up, the acceptable rank range expands step by step until a match forms
Restarting costs you: cancelling a queue throws away the range the search had already opened up, so the next attempt begins from scratch
Battlefield Labs in Live: the behaviour ships to the live game as an experiment, with more tuning promised once EA sees how it performs
